GETTING STARTED
20 Questions for Phonemic Awareness
These slides are designed to give you an easy way to play Phonemic Awareness 20 Questions in your classroom. Just project & play! You could also print the slides and use in a center after students are familiar with the game.
If you are a homeschooling parent, you can show this on your computer/TV screen or print them out to play.
How the Game Works:
-Show a slide
-Think of an object on the slide
-Students get 20 yes or no questions to ask you about the object you are thinking of
-The questions have to be SOUND related.
Example questions would include:
Does it start with /g/?
Is there an /er/ sound in the word?
Does it have 3 syllables?
Does it rhyme with boot?
Does it end with /k/?
If students ask a letter related question, I remind them to ask about sounds and ask the question again. Each picture has enough objects for you to re-use them several times!
Phonemic Awareness with Letters
Here are some ways you can practice phonemic awareness with students while using letters!
Ways To Use the Picture Cards
On pages 29-42, you will find pictures with sound boxes. Here is a video showing how we use the cards! You can use any manipulate but remember, phonemic awareness is more effective with letters!
