Description

Did you know that memorizing words is not an effective or efficient way to learn? There are many research studies that show our brains do not store words visually.

Our brains actually store words through a mental process called orthographic mapping. There are many ways to promote this process and one of them is matching sounds to symbols.

This center includes pictures that a student will look at, say the word out loud, and then spell each sound by putting the fries in the box.

How to Use:

Print, laminate, and cut fry boxes and fries before use.

If you are working on digraphs and want kids to know which 2 letters represent the sound, you can use the fries with separate letters on them. If you are reviewing digraphs and want to focus on word mapping, you may choose to use the fat fry option.

Included words are as follows:

SH: shake, ship, shop, fish, brush, shell, crush, trash

TH: thick, math, think, three, thin, bath, path, sloth

CH: check, chin, bench, champ, chick, lunch, chips, inch, chop, cheese

WH: whack, whale, wheat, whisk

PH: graph, phone

NG: fang, ring, wing, sing, hang, swing
