This set focuses on LONG vowel sounds and is meant to be used when you are teaching LONG vowels in your phonics lessons. The lessons are a half page each and should be used as a warm up when working on phonics skills. You may or may not need all 3 days of lessons.
Why should we align our phonemic awareness instruction with phonics?
The short answer is, this maximizes our instruction time! Phonemic awareness is usually taught as a warm up at the beginning of a lesson. What better way to “warm up” than to get kids listening for the sounds they will be learning about in today’s phonics lesson?
Students will say or listen to the word and then choose the digraph that spells the beginning or ending sound. You can choose to have kids work on beginning sounds, ending sounds, or challenge them with the mixed slides which include both beginning and ending sounds!
