Description

Dear parents & teachers:

I created this manual as a helpful guide when you are teaching sounds and/or their spellings. When I started to learn more about frequencies, I found it helpful when teaching my students. I used to focus on certain spellings until I found out they really are not that common. This information also helped me better explain things to my students. I hope you find it just as helpful!

NOTE** The percentages may not always add up to 100%. There is almost always a word or two that have an unusual sound spelling. For example. AU spells the short A sound but only in ONE word… laugh.

If you have seen other resources for spelling frequencies, you may notice they are not inclusive. For example, many do not include the UR or IR spelling for the /er/ sound (as they are usually all taken from the same study). This manual was made to include as many sound spellings as I could find.

Each page contains a mouth articulation picture, spelling frequencies, voiced/unvoiced, stop/continuous, and either a fun fact, additional spellings, or exceptions.
